Delivering Health Insurance Benefits to the Poor in India

Households pay for the majority of health care expenses in India. Health insurance is one way to help lessen the burden of health care costs by spreading the costs of health costs across a group of people. Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY), a health insurance scheme launched in 2008 by the government of India, seeks to provide health insurance coverage to individuals and households below the poverty line. A recent workshop in New Delhi focused on sharing information about the RSBY Scheme to improve beneficiary access to health care.
