Egyptian Health Insurance Organization Web Site Features Articles on Health Systems 20/20

Three articles recently posted on the Egyptian HIO website Health Insurance Organization (HIO) web site highlight work that Health Systems 20/20 is doing with the HIO, an enterprise that insures and provides health care services to more than half of the Egyptian population.
The first HIO article focuses on a visit by Dr. Thomas Schwark, Health Systems 20/20 Medical Management Expert, and Dr. Magdy El Ashry, Director General of HIO Outpatient Clinics, to the El Haram and Rosal Youssef HIO clinics, where work is being done to revise primary health care standards. The primary health care standards are to be included in a Medical Audit Manual for Outpatient Clinics and Primary Health Care Facilities, currently under development. The June 29 visit took place at the recommendation of Dr. Said Rateb, HIO Chairman.
Dr. Schwark was impressed with the range of medical services provided to HIO beneficiaries. Staff at the Al Haram Clinic introduced him to the Clinics Information System (CIS) they are implementing and discussed with him the contents of patients’ electronic medical files and how clinic physicians take medical histories from patients. The second article discusses the hospital utilization and case management trainings that Dr. Schwark conducted in July for 36 professional staff from three facilities: Gamal Abdel Nasser hospital in Alexandria, Sixth of October Hospital in Giza, and Mabaret Tanta hospital in Tanta. Dr. Schwark also conducted workshops for key HIO staff, so that they would understand the importance of the case management and utilization management program. View HIO article in Arabic.
The third article discusses Health Systems 20/20-HIO collaboration on the final examination of the auditor trainees, which took place on July 25-26. The auditors are now carrying out Egypt’s first hospital medical audit with utilization review and case management, under the supervision of the HIO and with technical support from Dr. Schwark. The Health Systems 20/20-HIO collaboration will continue through mid September, as the project and HIO finance department build the capacity of department staff.
