Ministry of Health in Yemen Recognizes USAID’s Contributions to its Health Facility Survey

May 2 2007

The USAID Yemen health reform project (part of Health Systems 20/20) recently received an award from the Ministry of Health (MoH) for its leadership in conducting the health facility survey in the five focus governorates. The ceremony, held on March 27 at the MoH, and attended by Ministry officials and donors, was an occasion to celebrate the completion of the national survey.

Dr. Abdullah Al- Ashwal, Director General of Research and Information, presented some examples of the survey results, including health facility locations and services maps. The Deputy Minister for Primary Health Care commended the enormous joint effort utilized to accomplish the survey. He expressed his appreciation of the role of donors who participated in this survey, especially USAID. At the end of ceremony, the MoH presented certificates of appreciation to USAID, WHO, and the Dutch Embassy. USAID’s GIS expert received a special Certificate of Honor for his participation in the survey and his ongoing support.

USAID’s YPHR program continues to provide GIS training and development of tools and analysis at both national and governorate levels.
