Setting the Stage for Health Systems Strengthening: What We Have Learned from Doing Over 30 Health Systems Assessments

The HSA approach is an innovative tool designed to provide a rapid yet comprehensive assessment of a country’s health system. With experience in conducting HSAs in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean, presenters will highlight how HSA results are being used to strengthen health systems.

Health Systems Strengthening in Conflict-affected Countries: Lessons from Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia

Health systems strengthening in fragile and conflict-affected states confronts the challenges of limited and destroyed capacity,
residues of conflict and violence, weak government legitimacy, and often a flood of uncoordinated donor assistance.

This session examines how interventions in Afghanistan, DRC, and Liberia coped with these issues, and draws practical lessons from those experiences.

Quality TB Care: Using Smartphone Technology for Data-driven Improvements in Nigeria

Using Smartphones to collect TB data has eliminated the need for printed forms, minimized human error in data entry, reduced the lag time of availability of data for policymakers and managers,and helped pinpoint ways to improve delivery of care.

Tackling the Decline in HIV Resources: Lessons Learned from HAPSAT

The political will to achieve universal access of HIV services by 2015 juxtaposed with a decline in HIV donor funding requires HIV programs to rethink efforts to sustain scale-up of quality HIV services. This presentation provides insights into recurring HIV programing sustainability issues that have emerged from use of the HIV/AIDS Program Sustainability Analysis Tool (HAPSAT).
