Jan 12 2012
Health Systems 20/20 Project Director Dr. Ann Lion has been appointed to serve on the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria’s Finance and Operational Performance Committee.
Lion will represent the private sector delegation during the two-year term. Lion is a member of the Private Sector Delegation to the Global Fund’s Board.
“I am honored to be appointed to this important committee for the Global Fund. We strive to bring the best thinking from the private sector to reduce the burden of AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, and to strengthen health systems around the world to effectively respond to these challenges,” Lion said.
The Finance and Operational Performance Committee’s mission is to provide oversight of the financial management of Global Fund resources, as well as to ensure optimal performance in the operations and corporate management of the Global Fund Secretariat.
Lion brings more than 30 years of experience as a leader and manager of global, regional, and country-level health programs both internationally and domestically. In her role on the Health Systems 20/20 project, Lion has guided teams in strengthening health systems in more than 50 countries. This involves collaborating with ministries of health and other partners in the countries where we work and with colleagues from the Global Fund, UNAIDS, the World Bank, and other international institutions/donors to improve health systems financing, operations, governance, and capacity building within each country.
