Linking NHA and NASA – A Coordinated Approach
The National Health Account (NHA) framework aims to contribute to the health policy process by taking a comprehensive approach to total national expenditure—public, private, and donor-based. Subaccounts comprise components of total expenditure, and the HIV/AIDS subaccount specifically aims to track health expenditures related to HIV/AIDS. NASA differs from NHA in that it caters to a different set of stakeholders in addition to being integral in informing the resource gap estimation process. While there is overlap between the two processes as well, there is a need for coordination between the two in order to avoid duplicative efforts in resource tracking, eliminate production of conflicting estimates, and maximize efficiency in the use of resources.
