Health and Social Services Review 2008

The Health and Social Services System Review is the first report which attempts to take stock of the Ministry of Health and Social Service's performance, analyze the successes and challenges of the Namibian public health sector, and outline likely approaches and strategies for addressing these challenges.

Although the review includes data from as far back as Namibia's independence in 1990, the majority of the information was gathered in the past five years. The report highlights the progress made and the challenges faced in persuit of the “Health for All” goal.  Much progress has been made in the improvement of key health indicators since independence, however, recent statistics show a reversal in gains in mortality rates of children under five years old and maternal mortality rates. The findings in this report give ground for both optimism and concern.
