Costing for Health Strategy and Global Fund Activities
Accurately estimating cost can lead to successful health strategy and access to grants. The project supported the National HIV/AIDS Institute of Angola and its stakeholders to estimate the resource requirements for the National Strategic Plan (NSP) for STIs and HIV/AIDS for 2011-2014 as well as the resource requirements for the successful Global Fund Round 10 HIV/AIDS proposal.
Large activities specified in the NSP and the Global Fund proposal were divided into specific, implementable tasks. An iterative process was used to review and verify unit cost information with the INLS and in-country stakeholders, which was multiplied with targets to yield overall cost.
This activity provided a transparant costing estimate of the financial resources needed to reach national target coverage levels for prevention, care and treatment support for HIV/AIDS, and facilitated development of costed, evidence-based plans.
The Global Fund Round 10 proposal for HIV/AIDS was approved for a potential total of $69 million over five years.

May 10 2012It’s tough being a woman in South Sudan. A woman has little economic mobility, may be forced into marriage by the age of 14, and, should she become pregnant, she has a one in seven chance of dying due to pregnancy-related causes. As South Soudan edges towards war with Sudan, life for women will likely get more difficult. Joy Mukaire of the Christian Health Association of Sudan (CHAS), a Health Systems 20/20 collaborator, tells us how despite the setbacks she’s helping other women access quality health care.
